Every Woman should be a Pin-up for a Day!

A couple of weeks ago, we surprised a close friend of mine with a Pin-Up Party Stagette! And I even got in on the action!

The fantastic Linka from Astoria Photography (with her Hair & Makeup Gal Fridays, Krista and Melanie) made each and every one of us feel extraordinarily glam and rad.  It was an awesome experience – one that I hope to repeat sometime next year on my own.

I would definitely recommend Linka in a heart beat!  It’s a fantastic gift that you can give yourself (and that special someone). Just go and check out her stuff. You definitely won’t be disappointed.  If she can make a habitual tomboy like me into a little, pin-up vixen, then she can do ANYTHING. ;) She offers private sessions too!  http://www.astoriaphotography.ca

As for my shoot, well, naturally, my roller skates had to be involved. It was a hoot.  We played around so much!  And the laughter?! So much!  And I guess I was even Linka’s first derby girl. Yay! :D Here are some of the results:

Evolution

You probably haven’t noticed, but things have been in a bit of an evolutionary flux around these parts.

The most obvious being that I’ve retired the Plastic Cake Illustration name and have opted for the more inclusive, less restrictive, The Plastic Cake Art Factory. It might not seem like much – and its not.  The name change just allows me to do more things under my Plastic Cake brand instead of just restricting myself to illustration.  I’m still drawing pin-up girls and cartoon fun, I just want the opportunity to do more if I so choose. Like portraits. Or comics. Or graphic design.  Or whatever my little heart fancies.

And part of this evolution has also involved figuring out what I wanted to do with the Blog part of this website.  My original intent was to maintain an art process blog as a means to keep a record of my work and everything that went into the work. I love the idea of tracking my successes and failures.  But, unfortunately, it had become more of a forum for me to voice my self-doubt, lack of confidence and just general negativity. It was kinda lame. ;)

In an effort to address this stuff, I decided to scrub my archives (going back to 2007!) and start anew*.

Going forward, my writing style certainly won’t change. Factors, such as my potty mouth and all things geek, will always influence my writing.  But I am trying to shift my mandate.  I want this blog to be about the positive promotion of art and artists, art process, resource sharing, advocacy for independent creators (especially women creators), and learning & education (both for you and me).  Hell, maybe I will even write a tutorial, or do a live stream, or something one of these days.

I am tinkering with some BIG PLANS. Some involve my work. Some involve this site.  Some involve roller skates.  But all of them are RAD.  And I can’t wait to talk about them as they continue to evolve into 2012.

*Don’t worry, I kept a copy. Thank you, BlogBooker!  You should check it out! What an amazing tool!
